I have been on the South Beach Diet for 10 days (and lost 9 pounds so far YAY!). In phase 1 – first two weeks, you are suppose to eat proteins, nuts, and veggies, including low fat dairy. This has not been an easy task for me. Don’t get me wrong, I like meat, but it seems that everything I can eat is missing it’s important counterpart, the bread, pasta, rice … the carb!
I am a carb-o-holic and not having any baked goods has been the toughest thing. Sugar and starches are prohibited and this is suppose to help cure the cravings for sweets. But the one thing I am still craving are cookies. Last night while watching TV with S and watching him snack on oatmeal cookies (while I munched on a couple of pickles), I decided I was going to figure out a way to make some cookies that I could eat.
And so the Cookie Quest begins.
If you know of any good sugar-free, white flour-free (preferably South Beach Diet Phase 1 ok), please leave a comment.

That’s funny!
My Economics teacher at Kathleen told us about this diet and he was just delighted because he lost so much weight.
Tell me if you find a recipe for cookies that is without sugar
I have heard if you can’t get the cookies to meet your diet specs. Just make out with your man after he eats the kind you crave
(just trying to help..)
I wish I had a snazzy recipe for you, but my comment is only a tease… I want to say I’m uber-impressed with your discipline and possibly even inspired! I am 75% carbs, 25% water, and 5% sarcasm – so South Beach would be a challenge!
Keep up the great work!
I started SBD in November of ‘04 and though I’ve mostly gone to phase 3, to date I’ve lost about 90 pounds. I say about because I’m currently having a little expat relapse, too much new and exciting food to try! But I saw the numbers sliding in the wrong direction so I’ve basically been eating Phase 1 all week. I don’t think I ever had cookies on Phase 1, but I did make sure I had dessert with every lunch and dinner. I never felt deprived this way. However this is what I had: sugar-free jello, part-skim ricotta and Splenda type desserts, or Fat-Free Cool Whip mixed with cocoa powder. And these days I’d rather have a tiny bit of real sugar instead of all that fake stuff. Funny thing about the diet is it’s super whole foods and then crazy processed foods. I don’t think there’s Splenda even sold here in Switzerland so I’ve been indulging in a small portion of dark chocolate (which I think is more phase 2ish) for desserts, or plain yogurt with a little no-sugar-added jam. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions! It’s great how this reprograms your cravings, I just ate one whole wheat roll and I feel like I indulged in a whole loaf!
